Internet marketing is the sum of the total of all the techniques used on the Internet to advertise and sell goods and services. Internet marketing includes pay per click advertising, banner ads, e-mail marketing (not SPAM), interactive advertising, search engine marketing (including search engine optimization), blog marketing, article marketing and viral marketing.

Most of you have seen these various forms of marketing simply by surfing the 'net. Banner ads (as seen on the left) are probably the most notable -- outside of the annoying pop-up windows -- and have been successfully used to steer surfers to websites for products and services.

Viral marketing in its simplest definition is when one person tells another person about your product or service. The thought is that when someone I know recommends a product or service to me, because I trust the person I will buy it, use it, read it, etc. Does it work? Absolutely. Think about when you receive an e-mail that has a great offer in it ... do you pass it on? How about when you get a great buy on a car, boat, article of clothing. We all do ... and that's why this type of marketing is so effective.

Search Engine Marketing can be overwhelming to the casual observer. It would be nice if all the search engines function the same, rated pages the same, used the same formula (algorythm) to determine how relevant your page is to a subject matter ... but they don't. So we spend time and money learning who is doing what and what is the latest and greatest technique. In my opinion there are some hard fast techniques that will help you rise to the top of the search engines -- all of them. But you have to be patient and it does take a while to get your organic terms to show up.
